Engaged
employees are focused on their job, derive enjoyment from doing it and
put in extra effort. Why is this important? At a time of increased
global competition organisations need to get the best out of their
people but research findings suggest that only 20-35% of employees are
fully engaged. Dr Richard McBain will outline the increasing importance
of employee engagement, and the key lessons from recent research at
Henley Management College into the factors that promote engagement and
in particular the role of the line manager.
Dr
Richard McBain is currently Director Specialist Masters and Doctoral Programmes,
having also undertaken Director of Studies roles for the Distance
Learning and consortium MBA programmes at Henley Management College.
Prior to joining Henley Richard had 17 years experience of working in
the financial services sector in various operational, business
development and training and development roles.
His
experience includes project managing the merger of two financial services
organisations, the setting up of an offshore banking subsidiary, and
also implementing competence development and coaching and mentoring
programmes. This interest in learning and development has continued at
Henley Management College, where Richard's role has focussed on the
direction and development of Masters programmes. He also teaches on the
human resources and research methods modules on the MBA and runs
coaching and mentoring workshops for clients and for programme members
on Henley programmes.
Richard
is currently researching in the areas of employee engagement and organisational
commitment and he retains a long-standing research interest in
mentoring. He has also completed doctoral research into the impact of
mentoring on self-efficacy, emotional intelligence and academic
progression.
