Henley
Malta and The Executive Organise a Business Breakfast
(4 September 2008)
Henley
Malta
and The Executive recently organised a business breakfast at the Palace
Hotel in Sliema, for which, some 60 executives and managers from all
sectors participated. During the event Dr. Richard McBain of
Henley
Business
School
presented the results of a research carried out by
Henley
on employee engagement and affective commitment. The study involved a
qualitative exercise with 33 senior and middle managers of four large
organisations, followed by a quantitative study of 1,500 respondents.
A number of interesting findings
resulted from the studies, most of which can provide insights into the
level of engagement an employee feels and how this can be monitored,
evaluated and improved. Overall, the level of engagement seems to be
affected by the job/work, the organisation, the line manager and the
individual. Another interesting finding throughout the study was the
lack of mention of money as a factor for engagement, but was identified
as a factor for disengagement when the individual feels under-paid.
Dr. Richard McBain is currently
Director Specialist Masters and Doctoral Programmes, having also
undertaken Director of Studies roles for the Distance Learning and
consortium MBA programmes at
Henley
. He also teaches on the human resources and research methods modules on
the MBA and runs coaching and mentoring workshops for clients and for
programme members on
Henley
programmes. Dr. McBain also retains a
long-standing research interest in mentoring and has also completed
doctoral research into the impact of mentoring on self-efficacy,
emotional intelligence and academic progression.
Maltese Associates Attend
Henley International Network Meeting.
(7 July 2008)
Mr.
Emanuel Said and Mr. Lorenzo Mulè Stagno, directors of Allied
Consultants Ltd. and associates for Henley Management College together
with Prof Reno Sammut the outgoing associate, attended an International
Network Meeting at Henley on Thames in which various aspects of the MBA
courses were discussed. Also on the agenda was the imminent merger with
Reading University. It was confirmed that this merger would make little
difference in operations and processes, but the awarding body of the
Henley MBA would now be Reading University. The merger should also serve
to take the Henley MBA world rankings, which are already high, to even
higher levels.
Henley is
one of the few business schools around the world that has achieved
triple accreditation for quality from the leading professional bodies in
the USA, Europe and the UK: AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA. The Henley MBA
reputation was further enhanced by the world rankings obtained recently.
The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) last year ranked Henley's Full
Time MBA as 10th in the world, 5th in Europe and 2nd in the UK. This
year the EIU, producing a ranking for distance-learning MBA for the
first time, ranked the Henley MBA as 6th in the world, 4th in Europe and
2nd in the UK, making it one of only two business schools in the
world to rank in the top 10 for both full-time and distance-learning MBA
programmes.
Henley
Management College, having been in existence for more than 60 years, is
one of the oldest business schools in Europe and the first to be
established in the UK. The college boasts some 30,000 alumni of which
over 40% come from outside the UK.
The
Maltese associates expressed satisfaction not only with the outcomes of
the various formal discussions at the International Network meeting, but
also with the fact that they also had the opportunity to share personal
and less formal views with other associates from various countries.
These included countries as far apart as Finland, Trinidad and New
Zealand, which shows the range of the Henley MBA presence in the world.
Henley is present in some twenty countries covering all five
continents.
Henley Management
College and University of Reading Consider Merger (28
February 2008)
Henley
Management College and Reading University in the UK announced their
launch of discussions leading to a merger creating "a combination
of assets of both institutions."
Under the
terms of the potential merger, Henley Management College would combine
its operations with the University of Reading, forming a significant
institution which is capable of taking Henley’s world ranking even
higher than it has achieved this year.
Paul
Walsh, CEO Diageo plc and Chairman of the Court of Governors of Henley
Management College said: “This is an important strategic decision for
the successful development of Henley’s mission to deliver management
and leadership development and education in the 21st
Century and is fully supported by the Court of Governors."
The
University of Reading announced that it had reached agreement in
principle on the potential merger to form a new world-class business
school.
The merger
will bring together two highly complementary business education
offerings: Henley is a leading international provider of executive
education and MBA programmes, while Reading is a world leader in
international business research with centres of excellence in business
education for the financial and real estate.
Christopher
Bones, Principal of Henley Management College, said: “Henley is
already one of the most highly rated providers of executive education
and MBA programmes in Europe and is widely recognised as a thought
leader in the field of management.
“By
combining with the University of Reading, we aim to build a new, more
broadly based business school able to command an even higher world class
reputation, able to attract students and academics of the highest order
and able to provide business organisations with an education partnership
in a class of its own.”
A
spokesman for Allied Consultants Ltd, of Msida, Henley's representatives
in Malta, stated that with the proposed merger the world prestige of
Henley would be enhanced and its, already high, International ratings
would also improve.
Henley Management College
Distance Learning Also Makes Top 10
(4 February 2008)
For the
first time, the Economist Intelligence Unit produced this year a ranking
of the world’s top distance-learning MBA programmes and Henley
Management College's programme has emulated its full-time one by also
making it to the top 10. This makes Henley one of only two business
schools in the world to be ranked in the top 10 for both its full time
and distance learning MBA programmes by the Economist Intelligence Unit
(EIU).
Henley, in
the same report, received the top score for student rating of programme
content. The new ranking
takes into account three basic criteria to judge schools: programme
content, quality of fellow students and distance learning elements.
The EIU recognises that many of the quantitative data used to
rank full time MBA programmes are of little use when it comes to
distance learning and so put more emphasis (60/40) on a survey of
programme members.
Neil
Gibbons, Executive Director of Open Enrolment Programmes at Henley
stated that: “We’re delighted that the EIU has recognised that there
is no variation in the high quality of our MBA programmes, whatever
their method of delivery. We’re
particularly pleased with Henley’s high placement in the EIU rankings
as 60% of this ranking is based on a survey of actual programme members
with only 40% based on quantitative data supplied by the schools
therefore providing a good reflection of perceived value from our
customer base”.
A
spokesman for Allied Consultants Ltd of Msida, Henley's local
representatives, stated: "We were delighted when Henley achieved
its high ranking for the full-time programme, imagine what we feel now
that they have achieved this in the same programme that we offer
locally."
Henley Management College Makes
Top 10
(5 December 2007)
The Economist Intelligence Unit
has ranked Henley Management College's Full Time MBA as 10th best in the
world. This ranking places Henley ahead of Harvard, INSEAD, London
Business School and Bocconi. Henley, with this ranking, has also moved
into the top 5 of European Business Schools, ahead of the likes of
London Business School, INSEAD, SAID, CASS and Bocconi. These rankings
also place it as the second best college in the UK.
In the same report, Henley has
also achieved world-class first ranking results in these sub-categories:
for Personal Development and Educational Experience, for Faculty
Quality, for Potential to Network, for Student Quality and for Breadth
of Alumni Networks. Also second rankings in the world were recorded for
Increase in Salary and for Final Salary.
A spokesman for Allied
Consultants Ltd, recently appointed Henley’s local representatives,
stated that this achievement augurs well for this prestigious Management
College's MBA programme in Malta.
"It is a certificate of
quality and value for the same MBA offered under various formats by
Henley throughout the world, including Malta," said the spokesman.
